REGISTRATION GUIDELINE 

  1. Requirements for Registration Applicants

To begin your registration process, ensure you have the following: 

  • An electronic device with internet access (laptop, tablet, or desktop).
    Important: Do not use a cell phone for this process. 
  • Use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers for the best experience. 
  • A valid personal email address for communication. 
  • Required documents in digital format (e.g., PDF, Word, JPEG, or Excel). 
  1. Required Documents

Prepare the following certified documents before starting your application: 

  • A certified copy of your ID or passport. 
  • Certified copies of your academic qualifications. 
  • An updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) (for Professional and Registered categories). 
  • Proof of work experience (for Professional and Registered categories). 
  • Proof of registration with any professional bodies (if applicable). 
  • Proof of payment (once invoiced). 
  • Academic transcript (for Graduate category). 
  • A completed competence report (for the Professional category). 
  • Residence Permit 7 months or more (For  
  1. Creating a New Registration Account
  • Click the APPLY NOW button. 
  • Select CREATE NEW ACCOUNT and complete the required details. 
  • Submit your information and check your email for confirmation. 
  • Log in using the credentials provided. 
  1. Submission of an Application
  1. Log in to the portal and click REGISTRATION on the dashboard. 
  1. Click CREATE+ to start a new application. 
  1. Complete the following sections: 
  • Personal Details 
  • Academic Details 
  • Memberships (if any) 
  • Work Experience 
  • Upload the required documents by clicking the ADD button. 
  1. Click SAVE DRAFT to save your progress. 
  1. Review your application by clicking EDIT. Note: Ensure that all your attachments are uploaded before submission. 
  1. Once satisfied, click SAVE FINAL to submit your application.
    Important: After clicking SAVE FINAL, you cannot edit your application anymore. 
  1. REGISTRATION IN THE GRADUATE CATEGORY 

To register in this category, ensure that your qualification is accredited in the country where it was obtained and/or by a member of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA). Additionally, the qualification must be recognized by ERB.  

Should the qualification not be recognized, it will undergo a qualifications verification process which may take up to 30 business days.  

NB: This category is reserved for ordinary residents in Botswana.  

After creating a new account, 

  1. Attach your Certificate or Completion letter (For instances where the certificate is not yet ready, but it is to be shared after it is available.) 
  1. Attach the transcript.  
  1. Attach your Identity Document (Certified Omang or Passport). 
  • Once satisfied, click SAVE FINAL to submit your application.
    Important: After clicking SAVE FINAL, you cannot edit your application anymore. 

 

 

REGISTERING IN THE REGISTERED CATEGORY 

Please Note: The registered category serves as an interim category for individuals who have completed four years of work in their area of discipline but have not yet acquired the necessary skills and competencies required for registration in the professional category.  

Individuals registered under this category may become eligible to apply for the professional category after completing an additional 12 months of practice in their discipline and area of competence. 

  1. It is important to note that registration in this category is not mandatory, as it is intended solely as a transitional category. Furthermore, this category applies to individuals who are ordinarily resident in Botswana. Email enquiries@erb.org.bw with your intent to upgrade and request login details. 
  1. Receive your login credentials within 3 business days. 
  1. Ensure you have the following documents ready: 
  • Certified copies of certifications. Note: For documents in languages other than English, include translations of the certificates.  
  • A certified copy of your Omang. 
  • An updated Curriculum Vitae. 
  • Three certificates of good conduct. 
  • Summary of work experiences (Form A1.6). 
  1. Upload the documents by following the system prompts. 
  1. Click SAVE DRAFT to save your progress or SAVE FINAL to submit your application. 
  1. Your application will be processed, and you will receive a response within 14 working days. 

REGISTERING IN THE PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY 

  1. Email enquiries@erb.org.bw with your intent to upgrade and request login details. 
  1. Receive your login credentials within 3 business days. 
  1. Log in to the portal and click CREATE+. 
  1. Update your details and select the new registration category. 
  1. Upload any new supporting documents and ensure that they are all certified. 
  1. Note: For documents in languages other than English, include translations of the certificates.  
  1. Ensure that you submit your competence report, which constitutes 90% of your professional category application. Attendance at the report writing workshop is required to help you compile this report. Please see the notes below for preparation.  
  1. Save as a draft, review your application, and submit it as final. 
  1. CERTIFICATE RENEWAL PROCESS 
  1. NB: Ensure to put in an application online 
  1. Visit https://certificates.erb.org.bw/auth/renewal_id/. 
  1. Enter your registration number and select the certificate for renewal. 
  1. An OTP (One-Time Pin) will be sent to your registered email. 
  1. Enter the OTP and upload the necessary documents. 
  1. Click Submit to complete the renewal process. 
  1. A response of acknowledgment of your application will be shared within 5 days.  
  1. Following your payment, your practicing certificate will be shared with you within 14 days.  

REGISTRATION IN THE TEMPORARY CATEGORY 

NB: This category is for individuals who are not ordinarily citizens of Botswana.  

Must be a professional in your field with recognized qualifications from your home country. 

Qualifications not written in English must include certified translations. 

Must be coming for a temporary purpose, engaged in a specific project or assignment in Botswana with a defined duration. 

Steps to Apply: 

  1. Create an Account: Visit the online platform and create a new account. 
  1. Competence Report: Prepare a competence report. (It is recommended to attend the report writing workshop before drafting your report.) 
  1. Certified Documents: Submit certified copies of: 
  • Education certificates. 
  • Relevant professional certificates. 
  • Identity documents (passport or national ID). 
  1. Employment Details: Provide a letter from your employer or project sponsor specifying: 
  • The nature of your work. 
  • The duration and location of your assignment in Botswana. 
  1. Submit and Pay: 
  • Submit your application and wait for an invoice. 
  • Pay the required fees upon receiving the invoice. 
  1. Approval Process: Your application will be reviewed within 30 business days. 

NOTE: 

  • Validity Period: Temporary registration is valid for the specific project’s duration. Extensions will require approval from ERB. 
  • Non-renewable Projects: Some registrations cannot be renewed unless explicitly approved by ERB. 
  • Special Cases: Any unique circumstances will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and decided by ERB. 

English Proficiency 

  • All engineering professionals seeking temporary registration who are not native English speakers must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. The Board has identified the IELTS as the requisite test to assess this proficiency. This ensures that registered engineering professionals can communicate effectively in all aspects of their roles. Applicants are advised that the IELTS test is accessible both online and at dedicated testing centers globally. Achieving the prescribed score of more than 5.0 (>5.0) in the IELTS will be essential for successful registration. 
  1. Important Notes
  1. Ensure all documents are certified copies. 
  1. Payment should only be made after receiving an official invoice. 
  1. Regarding the Professional Competence Report, Please Note:  
  1. When describing your engineering contributions, use the WAR model (What, Action taken, Results). Avoid listing responsibilities and instead focus on personal contributions and application of engineering principles. 
  1. Avoid diagrams and formulas; describe their practical applications instead. 
  1. Proofread all drafts and the final submission carefully. 
  1. Follow formatting guidelines, including font size, word count (4000words +/- 10%), headings, paragraphs, and proper numbering, NB: Reuse projects or tasks only to highlight different aspects of competencies. 

 

  1. Provide two examples for each competency subsection (e.g., A1, A2, B1) from different tasks or projects. 
  1. Routine and predictable tasks do not qualify for registration purposes. 
  1. Do not list responsibilities or experience in a CV style. Focus on contributions rather than job descriptions. 
  1. Use the first person (“I”) and clearly explain your contributions. 
  1. Avoid narrating project implementation stories. Instead, highlight your specific role and how you applied engineering principles. 
  1. A simple awareness of principles is inadequate. Clearly explain why and how you applied them. 
  1. Payment Process

Your application will undergo a desktop assessment within 14 working days. Once the assessment is complete, you will receive an email with a payment invoice.

  1. EFT or Direct Bank Deposit: Send proof of payment to finance@erb.org.bw and cc registration@erb.org.bw. 
  1. Online Payment: Use the secure card payment option through the portal. 
  1. In-Person Payment: Visit our offices at Plot 75783, Setlhoa Office Park, Block 10, Gaborone.

Important Notice:
Payment is to be made in stages, strictly based on the amount invoiced at each stage. Advance payments for future stages of the application  are not permitted. Please note that penalties will apply for any such payments.
