Which category do you register under?
Every category asks for the same qualification. What separates them is how long you have practised since you earned it, whether you can demonstrate the full set of professional competencies, and whether you are ordinarily resident in Botswana.
A diploma, advanced diploma, technology degree, or a degree in any recognised engineering discipline.
What tells the categories apart
Find the row that matches your experience, then read the condition beneath it.
Graduate
No further condition. This is the entry point for anyone newly qualified.
Registered
You are unable to demonstrate all the required competencies for professional registration.
Professional
You can demonstrate the required competencies, which is assessed through a competence report.
Temporary
You are an expatriate engineering professional, not ordinarily resident in Botswana, and you do not hold a residence permit of six months or more.
Expatriate graduates without sufficient professional experience will not be considered for registration. The Temporary category has no graduate equivalent.
What you submit
- Copies of your degree or diploma certificates
- Identity document
- Post-qualification professional experience summary
- Other relevant documents
- Proof of payment of the application fee, which is non-refundable, and the registration fee
How long it lasts
- Registration certificate
- Valid indefinitely. Once you are on the register, you stay on it.
- Practising certificate
- Renew every year. This is the one that lapses.
