Initial Professional Development
The IPD programme is designed to assist in developing structured training and development programmes that enhance professional engineering competencies. In practice it pairs a graduate or registered practitioner with an approved professional in the same discipline, over the years in which the competencies for professional registration are actually built.
For a mentorship relationship to be recognised by ERB, a contract must be submitted to ERB before the mentoring relationship commences. Time spent mentoring before that contract is lodged does not count.
Become a mentee
You are building towards professional registration and want structured development while you do it.
You qualify if you are registered with ERB as- Graduate, as an Engineer, Technologist or Technician
- Registered, as an Engineer, Engineering Technologist or Technician
Become a mentor
You are professionally registered and ready to sign off on someone else's development.
You qualify if- You are an ERB member registered in the Professional category, holding a valid practising certificate
- You have at least two years of work experience since obtaining your professional designation
- You work in the same discipline area as your mentee, so you are familiar with their subject matter
- You are approved by ERB as a potential mentor
You may be inside the mentee's organisation or external to it, provided you satisfy all programme requirements.
