The Engineers Registration Board (ERB) wishes to remind all registered engineering professionals that renewal of Practising Certificates for 2027 will open on 1 October 2026.
All engineering professionals who intend to continue practising engineering in Botswana are encouraged to submit their renewal applications promptly and ensure that their registration and practising status remain current.
Under the Engineers Registration Act (CAP. 61:06), as amended, ERB is mandated to regulate the activities and conduct of engineering professionals in Botswana, promote high standards of engineering practice, and protect the welfare and interests of the public. ERB also issues Practising Certificates to registered engineering professionals.
Why Renew on Time?
A valid Practising Certificate is an important part of maintaining compliance with the regulatory requirements governing the engineering profession in Botswana. The Engineers Registration Regulations provide that an engineer intending to practise must apply for a Practising Certificate authorising them to practise in their registered category. The Regulations also provide for renewal before the certificate expires.
ERB’s current guidance confirms that Practising Certificates expire on 31 December each year, and the renewal period commences on 1 October. Engineering professionals are therefore encouraged not to wait until the end of the year to renew.

How to Renew
Renewal applications can be submitted online through the ERB certificate renewal portal.
Applicants should:
Have their ERB registration number readily available.
Access the online renewal portal.
Select the certificate requiring renewal.
Complete the required verification using the OTP sent to the registered email address.
Upload the required supporting documents.
Submit the application and complete the applicable payment process.
ERB’s renewal guidelines indicate that an acknowledgement of the application is provided within five days, while the Practising Certificate is issued following payment and processing.
